Belly Dance

Belly dancing is the oldest form of dance, some of it's roots come from the ancient cultures of orient, India, and the mid-East. Through Belly Dancing you learn how different parts of the body can move independently while working in  harmony with the rest of the body to express its form of art. Belly dancing is generally performed barefoot, thought by many to emphasize the intimate physical connection between the dancer, her expression, and Mother Earth. Most of the basic steps and techniques used in belly dancing involve circular motions isolated to a certain part of the body. For example, a circular movement "drawn" parallel to the floor by the hips is known as a "hip circle", or by the rib-cage known as a "chest circle". Accents such as "hip lifts" or "drops" are use to draw the eye to hip movement such as "shimmies or hip circles", while shoulder or arm movements are to accent chest or belly undulations. Dancers often dance while balancing various props like baskets, swords or canes(canes in particular for folkloric dances.)as well as using silk or chiffon veils and wings for dramatic dance pieces.
American belly dance costuming generally has a glamorous or luxurious style (think Hollywood or couture design). Classic American belly dancers usually wear a two-piece outfit, with a decorated bra top, vest, or blouse on top with a skirt and/or 'harem' pants secured at the hips (with the midriff usually, but not always, uncovered). Fabrics most often used are silks, satins, chiffons, lamés, and fabrics that glitter with sequins, beads, or metallic threads

Persian

Persian dance refers to the type of dancing from Iran. Upper body motion is emphasized, with hand motions, trunk undulations and facial expressions being points of attention. Although often compared to Arabic dance, Persian Classical dance is actually very distinct, especially in its lack of hip movement, a staple of Arabic dance. Generally, the female partner will lead with her upper body in a delicate fashion using her arms and hands, while the male partner complements her movements in line with the music. However, it is also common to see same-sex couples performing this style of dance, with one leading and the other responding. However, this style is generally substantially less sensual in both manner of movement and in facial expression.
Often, Persian dance will be performed at relatively informal gatherings, such as family meetings, where everyone will sit in a circle (especially on rugs) and a couple will dance in the middle, sometimes accompanied by a Persian drummer playing beats. Persian dance is also used more formally at various social events, like weddings.
Persian dance appears in American pop culture in the film Alexander performed by the eunuch Bagoas at the ceremony where Clietus dies.
Iran has also Bandari dance which is a form of belly dance and belly dance itself Raqs Sharqi
Among most notable ensembles of Persian dance is Afsaneh Ballet. Among notable dancers are Farzaneh Kaboli, Banafsheh Sayyad, Shahrokh Moshkin-Ghalam

Yoga

Yoga is a dance of life; Hatha yoga is the very core of this dance, where the body is honored through practicing a flow of postures that emphasis on breathing and alignment. Yoga means “union” in Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. It is a science developed more than 5000 years ago to teaches the importance of allowing the mind and body to unite and work in harmony for the creation of a more balanced, responsible human being. It is a system of perfecting health through practicing combinations of large numbers of exercises or poses that keep the body and mind working together to build strength, flexibility, balance, and concentration. It is designed to keep the internal organs healthy along with strengthening muscles and bones, and increasing flexibility of joints, tendons, and ligaments. This is a fantastic practice for both kids and adults.
